About Rachel

Rachel Payne is on the Africa Management for Google and is the Country Manager for Google, Uganda. She is responsible for setting up business operations and serves as the official representative for the company. Prior to her current role at Google, Rachel was on the founding team of Google.org and was a senior program officer on the Global Development Team, where she managed the grant and investment portfolio for the East Africa SME Initiative at Google.org, focused on increasing investments in small- and medium-sized enterprises and building a supporting ecosystem for SMEs in Africa.

In 2005, Rachel Co-Founded inDplay - a media company providing cross-platform distribution for independent, professionally-produced content - and served on the Board of Directors until 2007. She has worked with a number of high-tech firms and start-up companies in Silicon Valley, including eBay, IDG, Razorfish and Hotwire. Rachel is on the Global Advisory Board for BRAC USA, affiliated with the world-renowned NGO BRAC International.

Rachel earned her MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business in Global Management and Public Management and she has B.A with distinction from Smith College.
