Dayton, Ohio, US
I started off creating a t-shirt company shortly out of high school and learned quite a bit about working with vendors, teams, sales, etc. Soon dropped the t-shirt thing after watching the other founders' excitement and opportunity fade and moved into an industry I knew almost nothing about, ethanol.
I was catapulted into learning as fast as I could to make sure that I was profitable performing a service I had no experience in (distributor) in an industry I knew little about (ethanol). With no contacts in the industry I volunteered to participate in whatever way I could to help the product company: went to D.C. on a lobby trip, wrote some of their tech manuals, suggested business opportunities/benchmarking to competitors, etc. This was my biggest learning experience in entrepreneurship and opened the doors to learning as much as I could about project management, entrepreneurship, business development, etc.
My job background is a balanced mixture of hands on technician experience, logistics analysis, project management, liaison engineering, and technical writing expertise with civilian and government agencies. Such agencies range from the US Air Force, NASA, BAE Systems, Raytheon, Bombardier Learjet, Dassault Falcon Jet, Gulfstream, DynCorp, Boeing, and many others for a total of seventeen years in the field. Worked on anything from private aviation (GIV, GV, Hawker 800XP, Learjet 45, King Air, etc) and military (V-22 Osprey, Compass Call C-130H, Short 360, etc) and wrote on-orbit maintenance procedures for the International Space Station (ISS), flight manuals for Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo & WhiteKnightTwo, maintenance procedures for the USAF, and many more.
