App development · Gamification
I have this fear that gamification may make my business software appear frivolous. But another part of me thinks if I can manage it well, it may help moderate and light users give it a shot - both in terms of getting to know all features and continued usage.
Can you provide any examples of gamified business apps - both successes and non-successes - and lessons, if any?
The one that comes to mind is SFDC (onboarding gamification for new users). But really, this question isn't for CFL people, this is something a simple Google search returns many review articles from tech publishers. This analysis has been beaten to death by professional analysts and journalists. Go look at what they've written.
Most any social media would be a great example for you. With the likes, nods, shares, hearts, voting, upvotes, comments...etc. You could easily apply the gamification concept as part of those models since they involve several levels of user motivation and reward.
Let's walk through your concerns and see if we can find a good rationale for your choices.
When you developed your software; What was the driving reason for using the method of gamification specific to your product? Was there a specific idea, testing result or factor that pointed towards incorporating this methodology?
If you were to remove these gamification traits, would your software still perform on the same level of usability and overall functional benefit to the user?
Lets' start here first and see what sort of additional input we can get for you. Cheers!
