What small things can we do to improve our social media presence?

I know social media is important, especially for a new company to get their name out there. I’ve heard that even adding not super relevant images to your tweets can drive your number of retweets and general interaction. What other small things like that could we do to improve our presence and increase our # of followers? Specifically focused on Twitter, FB, Instagram, and other popular outlets. What are some hacks people have learned over their time using these platforms for their business? What hacks have grown your social media presence without much effort or $$?

If you're thinking of social as a "hack" to begin with, I think you might want to revisit your whole purpose for having a social program. More importantly, what specific business goals to you have to justify "growing followers" - what's the end game?

1. Include (relevant) photos in your post
2. Tag (relevant) people / Key Opinion Leaders/ accounts who may re-tweet
3. Really work on the content

For YouTube only, in the section that allows you to add tags/keywords, add your competitors names to your tags. Bit cheeky, but will increase the chance of your video showing up in the right hand "Suggestions Section" next to the video, as YouTube will 4 times out of 10 see it as related.

E.g. CNN adds a YouTube clip called "CNN catches dog eating cat". The BBC add the same video called "BBC catches dog eating cat", but every news outlet has that video, so in the keywords add "CNN, ITV, New York Times, Daily Mail ect ect. Then there will be a much higher chance of it showing in the "Suggestions Box" next to each video.

HI Chloe - great question.

A small and powerful step is spending 10-15 min a week engaging on Twitter, FB, and Instagram.  Follow like-minds, target audience.  Like their posts, comment, and just be a friend.  This may seem like a small step, but you'll be surprised at the return.

Posting is important, ENGAGEMENT is just as/if not more important.  Hope this helps!

Hi Chloe, it's not just about social media - what you're talking about is content marketing, which is a part of an overall content strategy for your business. It treats content as an asset, and has very clear goals and metrics by which you measure those goals.

I just launched a new podcast to help with this called "Marketing without the Marketing." A good start for you might be "Why Content Marketing is Your Only Choice", because I really believe that for small businesses and startups. The traditional channels can come later, once you have a foundation of trust, and of course, capital to spend on traditional campaigns.

I use a tool called SumAll which aggregates my social media and shows me some high level data. It also sends out a tweet automatically thanking my top commenters on twitter. I find this to be vital to building the brand. I am sure there are other similar tools but it's something to encourage engagement and people always like it when they are mentioned on twitter so its useful

You can build your audience without expending much effort or without expending much money, but you can't do it without doing one or the other. All the people telling us how they built their followings or audiences for "free" using social media are lying, because they spent time doing it - and time, as some say, is money.

You look back at people like Gary Vee and Pete Cashmore - they spent hours upon hours upon hours of time on Twitter and other social media sites to build the audiences they did. And neither would tell you they did it for "free."

If you want to increase the exposure of your company's name, you can promote it on Instagram. But first you should have a large user base on Instagram. There are many methods can help increase Instagram followers, but the most effective way is to buy followers and likes from a reliable company. Here I recommend you buy Instagram followers and likes from Getinstafollow. It is a reliable company which can provide real active followers and likes from real users. Many Instagram users have chosen it. If you have any need, you can have a try.
