What is the best prospecting tool for startups?

SugarCRM and Microsoft Dynamics.  Salesforce is more expensive and is targeted at organizations with a large number of sales persons (100s) and customers (10000s).

There is a little known history about how to acquire FREE contacts (legitmately) via SalesForce. They acquired a company called Jigsaw.com about 6 or 7 years ago. Jigsaw was an open-sourced FREE platform that allowed garbage in, garbage out contact uploads that were vetted and edited by whomever had an account with Jigsaw. Well, when Jigsaw got bought out, SalesForce decided that they were going to charge for this free service, which they still do today. However, the "deposit contacts to download contacts" approach is still there, but they've buried this truth deep in many clicks. Nonetheless, connect.data.com/home is the URL. I happen to have the top level connectivity and can pretty much get thousands of names whenever I want that happen to have about an 80% legitimacy rate. I utilize LinkedIn quite a bit. Especially in some of the companies I have worked in previously. Here is a guide from InsideSales that will give you a real breakdown of how to prospect effectively. (Sorry, they use it as a lead gen.)

You might also be able to get a subscription to Hoovers as a new user for a better price. The last time I had a subscription it cost around $25k per year, but was well worth it.
