The Problem: According to the CDC, more than 20,000 people die each year due to prescription drug overdoses (PDO), while millions more become addicted. Heroin overdose has tripled in the past 10 years. Government agencies from every level of health care are perplexed as to how to solve this problem. Long-term historical methods to provide medications to patients have proven in our opinion the cause. The problem stems from people receiving too many pills at any one given time causing a high rate of dependency, addiction/deaths.
The Solution: To solve this problem, our Ann Arbor based Startup intends to deliver medications (controlled distribution) directly to consumers on-call (NARCAN), daily or weekly using Small Aerial Based Vehicles (Drones). I realize the idea sounds far-fetched but all the technology exists today, including bio-metrics to authenticate the patient directly from the Drone before drop off. Drone technology is reliable, inexpensive, fast and highly scalable. We believe the heart of the problem stems from the current flow of Prescriptions, i.e., too many given at one time. By using current technology we can economically control the entire process thus, eliminating addiction once and for all.
I realize our solution changes the path for pharmacies but its our vision that change is required to stem the PDO Epidemic which kills 44 people every day.
