I am able to sail the ship with a shoelaces budget in 5 months. What are the ways to get app viral. What is the magical formula to have million of downloads. Come on! it`s a social media app with curated contents. lack of a better word "indeed of the social networking app" - Remember - mIRC -> Orkut-> Myspace -> Facebook.
I suspect @dan-rumney means "grit", not "grift"? You don't want to grift.
First, understand the how the viral coefficient works. One way is to get your users to bring you even more users by enticing them with a cool giveaway or reward if they invite their friends. E.g. give them 1 year free access to a paid feature on the app. But you have to build in that functionality from the start. Take a look at something like UpViral and books like Traction by Gabriel Weinberg and Hacking Growth by Sean Ellis.
Unfortunately, there's no magic here, just grit.
To go viral, you need something that captures the imagination of a lot of people in a field that is already saturated with content. Ways to do this are:
* Produce original, engaging content
* Get the endorsement of some significant influencers
* Attain some press coverage somehow
If you're creating a social media app and you're looking for millions of downloads, then you need to have created an app that does something that no other app does... "curated content" isn't enough to differentiate yourself from other apps... what's your unique proposition?
Going viral is based on so many factors... many of them out of your control.
If someone thinks they have a "fool proof" way to go viral, they could have a "big chunk" of any new company they wanted... and retire as a billionaire in a few months.
"Going viral is not a strategy." - Mark Cuban (a fellow Pittsburgh native)
Now, back to reality...
Solve a problem.... Formulate a unique twist to help make it stand out... Sell, sell, sell... Collect money...
@daniel-turner: yup, thanks
@saquib-kahn: sure, but that's a marketing slogan... what does DupDup offer that insta/fb/twitter do not? I took a look at your site and it's hard to see the specific difference between your app and FB or Pintrest.
I'm not trying to be negative, but I expect if you reach out to other strangers, you're going to be asked the same questions.
I think you may be jumping the gun to be aiming to go viral just yet. Proceed with your beta, get real feedback from users and figure out that one thing that your app does that others do not and push that for all its worth.
Thanks Dan, for the prompt response! USP - Be someone`s hero - Also, tell the world who is your hero, and help others!
DupDup - Transforming lives. One smile at a time
I am reaching out to a lot of people, and trying my level best for the emotional connection, which gave me enough reasons to create DupDup app ( Be someone`s hero).
