Turning a popular game into a business?

I've been building an online game and it's begun to get heavy traffic. Instead of monetizing with banner ads, I'm exploring options like offering "sponsored" payouts for top users.

Does anyone have suggestions for transitioning an MMOG to full fledged business? Are there specific consultants or investors who specialize in this?

Without knowing what game type it is, it's hard to go and say: Do X, then Y, then ABC. Are there any mechanics in the game that are being monetized already? Will you upset your user base by placing in revenue generators for yourself after the game has already gotten 'heavy traffic'? Where is most of your traffic coming from, and how do they monetize? These are just a few questions that will need to be answered, and there are more. I'm sure you can find someone to consult on this, but be cognizant that you are facing a challenge about this.

Thanks for replies I'll reaching out individually too. The game is at growHive.io (I also own the .com as well, but these games seem to be .io now).

At the rate it's growing the current users will only be a tiny fraction of total so not concerned with upsetting them, but I'm very concerned with not making the experience crappy for anyone.

I seeded the traffic with my own domains and it's grown from there. I have a $1000 ad budget as well for the next few weeks but I'd prefer to work with someone with experience in ad campaigns instead of dumping it down the FB or Adwords holes.
