Suggestions for finding a marketing/advertising/sales person and type of marketing person?

I have a niche mobile app published in the app store that's well received by my target audience. However, I've yet to be able to get my sales to outweigh my advertising expenses. I'm thinking that perhaps I need to find some sort of person that can help me get the word out (whether it's calling people, social media, or traditional advertising). What kind of person am I actually looking for? And where would I find them? It would be ideal if they'd be interested in profit-sharing, though I don't know how realistic that is.

Thank you for any insights you have to offer!

If you could reach an agreement on sharing the revenue, what you should provide is only the app. You have a great app. They know the marketing techniques. Collaborate to make a fortune.

I'm assuming that Ron shared the link correctly.  It looks like you have a Niche and Limited market for this kind of App.  To gain marketshare you should see what kind of established distributors exist that you can tap into.  Forget the social media or paid ads route as the cost of customer acquisition is going to be too high.  You need to find meetup groups and build market share through grassroot gorilla style marketing.  See if you can offer internships to college students who are willing to become brand ambassadors for experience.

Just be sure you build a real internship program with training so you don't get sued.

It's all about sharing your story . . . people remember - and retell - stories. Give them something to talk about. Go where your customers are and connect with them in a meaningful way. Get involved in causes your customers or industry cares about. Build relationships by creating conversations. Your customers are part of your story. Gather testimonials. Create a communication strategy to share your story. Communicating without a plan is risky business. Have one person in charge of sharing your story. Make the message fit the medium and do not communicate in silos.

Hi Danny,

Are you still looking for someone? I would be happy to have a chat with you and see if I can help point you in the right direction.

If you want someone to do the Social - then it's a Social Media Manager.  If you want someone to focus on advertising than it's a Digital Planner.  Go to LinkedIn and type in these titles as if you were looking for a job yourself and see what the jobs and job descriptions are to help you design what you are looking for.   LinkedIn is what most digital media people use in our industry.

However,  because you are small/niche, you could also offer a competition to a local college for their digital class to come up with a "plan" for you and offer a cash prize (say $500)  and the internship to execute the plan for the summer.  This would be a huge hit.  Make it totally legit and you will get quality applicants.  Make if half baked and you will pizza delivery guy who wants to "do social"

App marketing is a specialty in its own right. I would look for someone with app marketing experience for sure, as well as ASO (app store optimization).

Do you have over 100,000 daily active users yet?

I ask this for two reasons, the first is until you do you should focus on downloads, you can buy these in most markets. The second is if you are over is number then there are more options for marketing.

What is the age group of the users? This too will help get a direction for marketing.

Do as much as you can on the marketing side but try to get a viral component (Social Sharing then user to user sharing and referrals).

You might not find a person as much as find a company to help you market the app depending on what market its in.

Assuming these are your products:

imo your opportunity / app can not likely support a contractor or a profit sharing person of the level you need. You need a rainmaker and a miracle worker.

Your situation:
- No Android?
- no reviews I can see
- no press I can find

Your needs:
- someone driven like blinding snow.
- who knows your space like they know how to breath.
- someone multi discipline talented and industry skilled.
- someone in a position t take on a significant economic risk because there is a lot of work to do.

Best of luck!

Is your App fun, playful, cool and useful?

Are people putting your App on the first page of their Smartphone?

How often per day do your Members click on your App? Metrics?
