I’m new in cofounderalab.com, so I’m sorry if my comunication is not perfect.
About my ideas: Topics are books and I'm searching for a co-founder developer, to build an MVP to present it to investors. If we will be ready, this summer we will present the product to investors (“social fare” an italian found, for startup with an high social impact purpose, that could finance us with 500k€ with a 15% equity partecipation) . With co-founder I mean an equity ‘s partecipation about 30%-40%.
I’m searching someone unhurried, young inside, not obsessed from money. I‘m not searching for someone that “has no time to waste” I’m searching for someone conscious of his capabilities, maybe that is moving his “first” steps like me that want to be strongly involved in an innovative project .
Contact me if you are interested, I will explain you my ideas.
Being a very good developer/architect myself, I can tell you the toughest part will be to find someone with "mad skills" who will work for free. Plan to have to offer that person a significant incentive. As a student, your best bet would be to hang out at the Computer Science building and try and convince one of those students to help out.
What prior experience do you have as an entrepreneur? What financial resources will you provide? How much product design or market research have you already completed?
Unless you have a successful track record as a founder, analyzed the market to ascertain demand, or are providing or generating startup capital, you can’t expect to own 70% of the business.
To prevent people from getting misinformed or discouraged, let me provide an alternative perspective. I've helped many of saas startups over the years, so I know a bit what I'm talking about. :
"Learn code or you'll be completely and utterly useless."
Utterly useless comment. Most successful startups combine cofounders and not all of them code. If all cofounders are coders, you'll likely fail because of lack of product market fit, marketing, etc.
"Tech companies with non-technical founders/CEOs are NOT truly competitive for reasons non-technical people simply don't comprehend."
Wow, is this kindergarten? Look up the founders of any successful startup list and you'll see most have non-technical cofounders int he mix. Avoid a technical cofounder like this guy with a superiority complex. Teamwork means trying to understand each other up to a certain degree so you can make better decisions together.
"Any language you use should be open source (E.g. use MariaDB for database which is open source, not MySQL as it is controlled by Oracle Corporation).
Don't waste time with frameworks or libraries (e.g. jQuery) unless they are only rarely called and serve a very specific non-critical/non-major function."
Avoid developers who say this. They will run your startup to the ground just because they want to built the 100 year bridge, just because it's 1% faster.
Francesco - have you looked into building the MVP yourself with a no-code tool? I would recommend Bubble (https://bubble.io/). I was in a similar predicament a few years ago when I was trying to find a technical co-founder to build a MVP and after spending some time on Bubble, I learned I could do it on my own. At first I didn't think No-Code tools were robust enough to achieve the results I was looking for, but then I read the following article on how someone used Bubble to create a "clone" of Twitter in just a few days and I was amazed. https://bubble.io/blog/how-i-cloned-twitter-without-any-code/
I'm happy to help with any questions you have. Best of luck to you!
Thank you John for your answer, i really appreciate it. However i’m searching for a developer and my question is not a generical “i wanna dev an app question” i m an economic student and i m working on this project with some Universitary teachers. I m not a coder, I’m leraning it to be competent but I will never be a coder . So i need a developer not ”someone that do it for me”. I’m searching someone truly interested on my idea who is happy to collaborate. I don‘t think that an economist have to be able to code his app and i don‘t think a coder have to learn accountability or strategy to launch it. Externalization is one of most important trend in open innovation.
Thank you Gorge for your answer, I’m new on this platform and I’m exploring. I added some information missing before your suggest. I’m a student, and I did some market research after i had my idea. Now I’m preparing my master degree thesis about this project, and i’m doing a reserach about the human resources that i could have to work on this project, so, i will be able to know what i have to ”buy”. I asked to different IT society the price to develop the platform that I need and it is about 20/25k€. It is ok and it is the price i expected but, in consideration of the kind of buisiness that I’m going to afford, collaborate with a developer could be really important, so I asked for a coder here. I‘m not searching for someone that “has no time to waste” I’m searching for someone conscious of his capabilities, maybe that is moving his “first” steps like me that want to be strongly involved in an innovative project .
Thank you Todd! I’m taking notes 🙏
Really thank you Bert for your answer. I perfectly agree with you. You said a lot of things that i learned through my economics studies. Genuinely I can say you that at first read this messages was discouraging. Luckily my studies supported me!
