How would you scale a free "startup themed" event into multiple markets?

Hi.  I'm the founder of a popular startup marketing event in Chicago called Bloggers Meet Startups.  I dream about launching into other cities around the world with independent co-founders to head each market.  How would you go about finding collaborators to startup local events?  Does anyone have experience in this?  What would you expect from "home base" if you were a local organizer?

Your collaborators will probably come from the existing blogging or startup communities in the local area. If you want to find bloggers, look for local WordPress Meetups on meetup.com. Here in Atlanta there are at least six such meetups. Drop the organizers a note through Meetup or post to their Meetup forum. As to startups, contact the local shared-work office environments and ask them to put your info on the blackboard or put flyers in the lobby. As to what you could offer, see BusinessProcessSyndication.com for some ideas. I'd be glad to talk with you and kick some ideas around.

Also on the startup side partner with local founder education groups in multiple cities like Founder Institute (fi.co) your activities might generate leads for them and vice versa.

You might want to reach out to Lance who is one of the founders of  New York City Dads Group.  My husband's a member.  It started as a meet-up and Lance has been very successful expanding into other markets. But I can tell you, because its an unique marketing opportunity for companies he gets awesome sponsorships.  My daughter has gone to a number of kid movie premiers.

Scott, you ask a difficult thing. Is this your first, best destiny? 

If the goal is "to make money now and even more money in the future" (and it should be), is this the shortest path between the present and untold riches?

Sounds like you want to put the cart in front of the horse. Former VP of Sales for IBM, Buck Rogers, suggested we pour gas on the fire that is the best version of your effort at this moment. Then, as it succeeds beyond your wildest dreams, the best candidates will beat a path to your door to open a local version in THEIR market. It's called "pull distribution" and I wrote a White Paper on the concept for supply chains. Your query could be solved in a similar fashion IMNSHO {grin}

I see your point and I agree with it. The thing is, I'm not trying to lose focus on the main "fire" rather I hope to allocate a bit of resources to essentially plant a seed it other test markets.

Also, this is maybe not a riches project but a component of a larger marketing strategy.
