The reason you're getting basically useless answers here is that you haven't given enough information. You've told us the product but you haven't told us whether you're looking at wholesale or retail, individual or institutional. You haven't told us what kind of marketing you do well and what badly. You haven't told us how you close the loop by turning the used plates into compost or fuel (you've read Cradle to Cradle, I imagine), and how you will do that from thousands of miles away. And you haven't given us any clue about whether there is enough margin to cover shipping, importing, dealing with distributors, and all the rest of it.
And the reality is, these are complex issues and you're not likely to get great advice in a forum such as this. To give good answers, someone would have to spend significant time investigating your situation, the market, etc.
I'm going to give you two specific pieces of advice to help get you on track. You should create good relations with other countries
I'd be more concerned about actual customers than potential customers. In theory everyone who uses plates is a potential customer. That's not a very refined strategy. I'm aware of at least three companies who are physically present at more than one trade show where hospitality buyers attend to learn about products like this and others. This means you aren't new, but the question remains whether you are different or not.
There is still an education curve for buyers on the benefits of these plate materials that you will need to overcome. But with any product, you must always demonstrate a personal benefit, a dramatic difference, and a reason to believe. There isn't a high demand for these products and it's unclear that there ever will be, so you will need to generate demand by showing why both the material and your company are a DRAMATIC improvement over what people are buying today.
People do not make a change for a small difference. Research shows that twenty percent better is still not enough for most buyers to change behavior. You need to demonstrate as much as fifty percent better before you will start to get the attention and motivation you desire.
As for meeting potential customers, you need to be where they are looking when they're looking. That kind of advertising, whether in print, in person, or digital, is a necessity. You have multiple competitors in the USA already who are getting in front of buyers on a regular basis. You can't do less than they are doing and expect to gain any market share. And if the market already has multiple suppliers for the same product, you need to significantly differentiate yourself.
Consider too that there are inherent difficulties with convincing companies to order internationally. And consider what the reputation of other products from your country may be with the people you hope to buy your plates. These objections and obstacles all need satisfactory answers when you make a sales pitch.
I don't mean to discourage you. I know very little about your product and nothing about your company. I'm pointing out some marketing basics that apply to you and everyone else too.

Networking is the key. If you don't directly know a lot of people or potential buyers in your targeted countries, you can always find someone who does, even from your friends or extended network. There are many people who are willing to help, this case is of marketing I believe, which is also not impossible.
Are you looking form distributors or end buyers? Probably distributors. This plates are probably for only one use and therefore cheep? With best regards.
