Building your career can be both exciting and scary at the same time. Every decision you make will reflect into your professional development. Luckily enough, nowadays we are faced with a wider range of career paths, which allows for a more colourful resumé. However, there is a limit as to when a wide selection can stop being positive and turn into a negative experience.

The mistake here is in relying on a (resume) system that is entirely broken. Stop using a resume. Sure, someone can ask you for a job history, but kick the resume as your first approach. Only insane people keep doing the same thing over and over and over again expecting a different result. A resume can only tell you what someone was asked to do, not what their capacity is. Start conversations by asking intelligent questions, demonstrate how your thought process works, and discuss the opportunities in front of others. Nobody cares about a 'colorful' resume if you can get them to where they want to be. Remove the "I/me" from your conversation and make it all about the other person. Remember that while a savvy business person might not need your help with their business, there is probably another area in their life where you can be a contributor. A good starter, "What excites you about what you do?" And again, discard the g.d. resume!

Honestly I think if you’re not scared, you are safe. Even thought you may be braver than most people and confident in you, been scared it’s the fuel that may thrives us to accomplish more.

And that wide range of career paths, can forge great generalists, but we must never lose focus in our strengths, in what can we bring to the table, and that takes some thought on who we are.
