An app to relieve passengers of boredom while using the public transit system (bus, train, plane etc.) by allowing them to play and win money/rewards, discover offers, discounts and events and buy transit related products and souvenirs etc.
Features of the application
Users can post complaints to the respective transit provider/agency.
Passengers can view offers/promotions available at different businesses (retail, dining etc.) along their travel route.
They can also view any events that are taking place along their travel route.
Play a travel time - based game with other passengers and win money/rewards. The game is to guess the arrival time of buses/trains/flights at their final destination. Similar to fantasy sport but for transit where people win according to the on time performance of the transit they select ( buses, trains, flights) in real time.
Businesses can add their location and offers/promos/events and it will be linked to the closest bus stop/train station and in turn linked to all the buses and trains that pass through there by the application. For flights it will be linked to the airports.
They can also put up their rewards for users to play and win by letting passengers guess the arrival time at a specific stop or the arrival time at the final destination.
Transit Agencies perspective:
Agencies can monitor passenger complaints, suggestions along a certain route.
If I were in your shoes I would really bring the entertainment factor to the forefront and build around that. Example....you get on a plane..you are waiting for everyone to board...you connect into other players. You all start betting how many people will walk on with a crying baby. I am partially kidding. The reality is all the reasons any business can fail only matter if you don't innovate around them so who cares what someone else did..do it differently...hurdle?....go around it under it over it. That is entrepreneurship merged with innovation. When I read what you write, none of if excites me...except that core entertainment factor which could be something different and unique...and the ease with which my rewards are integrated into that. The world is saturated with apps that provide easy use...discounts..promos...etc. If you can figure out how to create a new entertainment value and new reward system, its definitely worth a shot.
My suggestion is that you make a list of your assumptions (I can identify at least a dozen from your description) and test them. I see many problematic areas immediately. Two top concerns are that the government is not interested in, or cannot integrate your reports into their existing ticketing system. And most transit systems do not have wireless reach underground, so you're limiting to surface transit.
Many cities already have their own reporting apps and mechanisms. And there are already other systems that allow you to find deals and events and food and all kinds of stuff based on proximity. Most have failed in their attempt to run a model like you're describing, so it's important to understand those failures and how you will be dramatically different.
Good stuff man! Are you working on the customer discovery phase of your business (e.g. speaking with potential users on the B2C and B2B side)? I am not sure which phase you are in at the moment but I know a high-fidelity prototype can help provide additional insight as you move forward. I know that has been beneficial for my company as we have move forward.
