This is subjective of course, but I think much of The 48 Laws of Power has relevance to everyday business situations, especially from a networking/people perspective. If you read a lot of books like this one, you'll notice common themes reemerging, such as appealing to people's self interests when asking for assistance (Law 13) or planning to the end (Law 29). At the very least, it's an entertaining and thought provoking read.
48 laws of power is one of the excellent book that has been ever written. It has changed me, not only from an entreprenuer perspective but my life as well. I was this typical guy beliving in everything I was told, too afraid to see the reality. But once I read this, everything became clear. Why some people behave the other way? How to get what you want? How to win! I highly recommend you to read it, follow it.
Now looking from startup perspective these laws will benefit you the most:
Law 2: Never trust your friends too much, and learn to use enemies: Many times we find people who are smarter, brighter and luckier than us. Instead of being awed by them, most of us are internally jealous of their success. This jealousy in turn leads to enemity. For your business to succeed you need the best you can find. Learn to use them. Use friends for friendship but work with the skilled and competent.
Law 6: Court Attention at all costs: It doesn't matter if it is negative or even scandalous, it will boost your chances of winning. Remember this: Emotions are tempoaray and can be changed.
Law 7: Get other to do the work, but you take the credit: Life is too short, you cannot do everything. You don't see Elon Musk building rockets or Apple manufacturing their own chips. Get others to do the work. Outsource Marketing or Hiring or management. That way you can focus on other things.
Law 8: Make other People come to you – use Bait if Necessary: How do you attract attention to your startup? By giving offers or some value? Use them as bait. It will only help you.
Law 13: When Asking for Help, Appeal to People’s Self-Interest, Never to their Mercy or Gratitude: You want to get some work done from someone, give them an offer, they will do a good job rather than doing as afavour.
Law 23: Concentrate Your Forces : Concentrate only on the strong point. For what service or feature a people coming to you. Improve it. Make it the USP.
Law 27: Play on People’s Need to Believe to Create a Cultlike Following: Make people your business is part of something revolutionary and make them belive in you. Eg of companies that do it: Apple, Ferrari, Tesla etc
Law 37: Create Compelling Spectacles: Getting people's attention to your business is a challenging job but if you throw parties, festivities or networking events with lots of food and drinks, people would come and be converted into your customers. Initially FB and later snapchat did that. It gave money to "cool kids" to organize parties.
Law 48: Assume Formlessness: Remember the world is a very dyanamic machine, constantly changing every second. Only fools believe that everything will remain constant. Make sure business is always ready for the next opportunity and will change as the world changes
Hope this helps you :)
