Austin FD\'ers meetup?

December 15th, 2012

It\'s been another week at my full-time job. Nobody here seems interested in
startup topics or growth strategies. A real bummer.

So... who\'s interested in an Austin meetup with the goal of stress-testing
each other\'s ideas? Any takers?

I\'m in SF (actually just left Austin last week) and would love to meet up with FD\'ers here...

Hi Brian,

At my job people talk all the time about starting a business - but few ever do. The reason is usually that you leave behind a very cushy job for the unknown that you ever get serious funding. Angel funds is coffee money for people in mid career. They pay this with half a bonus check themselves. But it does not pay for your mortgage, kid\'s schooling and so on.

We had a few spin-offs in the last 10 years but each started out with 8-figures - I am assuming some backend strategic deals.

The big question is how can you bridge that gap. I am full of ideas around networking, security, telecommunications - my core topics. I am also highly interested in mobility and cloud. Though traveling a lot, I am right here in Austin. Happy to brainstorm with you and other.

Lots of interesting feedback... it sounds like 5-6 Austin residents would
like to get together. How about Saturday, 10am, Central Market (Lamar/38th)
lunch area?

PS - Bay Area FD\'ers: any time you\'re in Austin, give us a shout. We\'ll
have a breakfast taco throwdown. :-)

Austin FD\'ers, a quick reminder.

I\'ll be at Central Market, 10am Saturday should any of you brave souls wish
to meet. Nothing formal - merely some brainstorming on how to proceed.
We\'ll have a followup for our friends who are traveling for the holidays.

Austin Java and Dominican Joe coffee shop\'s both had workclub checks in the
last week.

Coffee and power\'s ( app is all about co-worker
discovery and uses linkedin for identity verification, something many of
us here already use.

More like \'where do you want to work today\' than having to arrange in

Granted, San Francisco, L.A., and Portland have more activity, as those
are the first cities with physical work Club spaces. I was working with
them when they first started, and they worked solely out of coffeehouse,
bars (bad idea), and other public spaces for over a year before the
consistent turnout was more than most venues could serve.

Entrepreneur friendly with open code and transparent development.

We don\'t seem to have meetup scheduling at FD outside of the official
events, something that might be a good feature for unlocked cities.

Now thats a great idea, shame I\'m in SF. I\'d love to recreate this in the Bay Area.

Let me know!
