I have seen numerous post on new LinkedIn user interface- mostly negative ones. I understand most people used it for basic research/prospect building, etc. Wondering if there is a new market opportunity to tap and what alternative do we have as sales professional?
Actually I disagree that MyOpportunity is a "spamfest" - Yes you get a lot of enquiries, many of which may not be relevant, but overall we have found this to be the most effective platform for generating actual sales. We have had hundreds of "enquiries" through this platform, and whilst they could be more focused, we have had over 78 of these result in actual sales of services of goods. Even with the filtering of irrelevant enquiries, I'd still have the 78 out of 809 any day ! And it is far more that we have generated through any other B2B online platform. :-)
It looks like LinkIn shot themselves in their foot (or worse). Their new interface is a disaster. When your waistline expands you have two alternatives: start eating less or get larger pants.
Looks like it is time for looking at AngelList, Viadeo among other networking tools and surely few new players with similar/added feature will come into the market. Only time will say but certainly a disappointment for the business community as I feel all business and social media applications are important to the economic development and perhaps a regulation of some sort would have been appreciated.
My problem with the new LinkedIn is that they removed the ability to categorize and add notes to contacts. That means that I have to use another application (spreadsheet) now to monitor the contact, while before LinkedIn was my goto place. I am still looking for an alternative, but it will not be easy to find. They did corner the market at least for the time being
While we are not attempting to be a substitute for LinkedIn (as we are not social media), We ARE focused on solving a number of problems related to business networking that LinkedIn neglects. Our app is called LincSphere (lincsphere.com) and is currently only for the iPhone. We are raising a seed round currently to build out the rest of the platform (Andriod, Web). Have a look and see what you think.
linkedin is my goto for finding a name of a contact at a potential new client. but as I scroll through I make my eyes filter out all the garbabe in the so-called timeline...just utter junk.
Fair enough, but now I'm curious... these 78 sales you mention... are these people that just saw your profile and reached out to you, interested in buying your product/service? Are these people who reached out trying to sell you something and you ended up selling them instead?
Also, what do you sell exactly?
I'm trying to get some context on these results you're saying you got on the platform.
You can probably try with Angellist, CrunchBase etc. where you target similar audience.
AngelList is the world's largest marketplace for startups jobs. Here are some stats on its marketplace:
250K candidates, 16K companies, 548K matches.
Active candidates and jobs doubled in the last year.
Hiring companies include Tinder, Medium, Hinge, IFTTT, Meerkat, and Yelp.
While I agree Alignable is a decent platform, particularly for local businesses. I have to disagree about Myopportunity.com. It is a TOTAL SPAMFEST. To clarify, when I say 'spamfest' I don't mean weird people from foreign countries trying to sell you ED medications. I mean it's a free-for-all of users soliciting one another - it's not a networking platform, it's prospecting platform. WAY worse than LinkedIn is in terms of unwanted solicitations.
